Color Wheels
I was fortunate enough to get a selection of color wheels from this company, and I don't know how I ever go along without them.
First - the basic wheel. Large and easy to read, this is a perfect starter color wheel. It gives an illustrations of color
relations ships including pure color, shade, tone and tint. Also, this side of the wheel shows the complimentary, split complimentary, triad and
tetrad relationships. On the reverse there is a Guide to Color mixing. While not always applicable in bead work, it does give a good
reference for using various shades and tones of colors, and will help you understand what colors to look for when using shading in your work. There is
also a smaller Pocket Wheel with the same information. I would suggest getting one of each to start - keep one with your beads and one in your
bag for bead buying opportunities!
Next, we have the Pocket Guide to Mixing Color, which is a wonderful color learning tool! Small enough to carry easily, but
it unfolds into a great tool for understanding all about colors. Primary, secondary, intermediate, tones, shade, warm & cool colors,
harmonies and much more are detailed in this amazing little "class in a card'! A good glossary is included, as are spaces to mix your own colors.
Beads would glue down nicely! Gray scale definitions, too!
The next wheel, the Interior Design Color Wheel is not as handy for beadwork, it does contain a lot of good information for using
color in decorating and for harmonizing colors. Good basic reference with applications in basic jewelry design, as well as in bead embroidery and
other techniques..
Finally, these is the amazing "Web Wheel"! This tool gives a "hexidecimal/RBG conversion tool for locating
all 216 web-safe colors" A bit hard to understand at first (at least for me) this wheel has turned out to be a huge blessing, as there are some
bead designs programs that use RBG numbers. There is also the masterwork of Susie Hughes, which gives each and every Delicas its corresponding
RBG and DMC cotton thread number. Combining this wheel with Susie's work, you could design on the computer with confidence in your color choices!
A good wheel is a given in any beaders box of tools - and there are many here to choose from, in a great price range. Pay a
visit to The Color Wheel Company today and get the wheel for you!
